Td5 Head Gasket
On the way home last night the coolant boiled and sprayed coolant out of the expansion cap......temp gauge normal and its been losing a little coolant for a while.
Looks like Head Gasket to me, 10P engine with 168k on and you can only see half the hole on the gasket and looks like the head has slipped due to plastic dowels.

My quandary is do I just replace the gasket on the 10P or swap out for a good 2nd hand 15P engine which would also allow easier ECU upgrades etc.etc.

Tks Nidge.

I would pull the head and see from there. You never know what you buy if you go secondhand.

For the ECU I believe you can change to the newer ecu on the older engine. However a discovery ecu might not work. Roel

Thanks for reply Roel thinking along the same lines myself now, as finding a good 15P engine here will be a struggle and not cost effective to bring from the UK anymore as a result of Brexit Rolling Eyes

Hi,

I had the head gasket go on my W reg TD5 at 99k miles.

As mentioned above, I bought the head gasket and head rebuilt kid from Turner engineering. Also put the metal head dowels In which were also from turner.

I had the head skimmed, although only a tiny bit. Some people say you shouldn't have it done but ive had no problems since.

Whilst there I replaced the Injector loom also.

I done this all myself as I am quite mechanically minded and it was fairly straight forward. Plenty of guides online if you are going to tackle it.
