Scotland 1999 Defender 90 2.5 TD HT Baltic Blue
Defender Door Cards
On my return home I have a few jobs to do on the doors but my first obstacle is removing the door cards.
I read a few horror stories about parts breaking or not going back on properly.
Does anyone have an idiots guid from start to finish from removing the window winder to the door lock button on removing the card and then reinstalling it as good as new ?
I’m looking at sound proofing the doors and fitting hinge guards.

The main problem is popping off the fasteners without half of the yellow bases on the door card breaking off.
It’s almost impossible to prevent it from happening, but there is a repair.

What you do is cut off the remaining stud from the yellow part on the door card, so it’s flat. Then drill a small hole in the centre and screw a small flat head screw in, leaving the head about 5mm proud. After that you can refit the white fastener and you are back in business.

You need to select a screw with a head that fits the white fastener, and is not too long. It sounds complicated but takes about a minute to do one broken fastener.

I took all mine off in the past and never broke anything, you really need a trim tool though like one used for popping fir trees.
Don’t forget to also protect the paint.

Using trim tool(s) allows you to use just the right amount of pressure.
IIRC you pop out all of the ones around the outside, then lift the whole card upwards off remaining clips. Not being over forceful and taking time is the answer.

I used the correct tool last time but three still broke.
After repair they never break again.

Canada 2000 Defender 110 Td5 XS CSW Epsom Green
All you need is this. Philips screw driver (to remove all the door crad screws) door panel tool (to pop all the side and bottom tabs) and these tiny little screws (and no drilling is needed) if you break a tab.

As said just file or cut down the nub till its flat and then screw in the tiny screw into the centre of the yellow plastic and Bob’s your uncle. Thumbs Up

Yes you can blodger the screw in to the broken fastener, but much better to drill a small pilot hole first.

If you don't drill a pilot hole and try to force screw it in, it can result in the yellow piece cracking. ask me how i know. From the land of the most expensive land rover defenders on planet earth. At �125k for a XS 110 csw and you get to own it only for 10yrs! Please find me a good reason to stay on this island.

A few pics that may assist. Tap the lock button up with a small length of wood. Tap the corner pins in with a small nail. Repair the any broken yellow heads with a small stainless screw after predrilling 1.5mm drill.

I always lubricate the plastic pins with a smear of Vaseline before refitting the door card, this makes them less likely to break the next time you have to remove them.

I see your repairs, but i have a problem with the fasteners not holding in the white rings when i press the door card on.

All new fasteners, some with the screw fix to hold them to the door. I also installed the foam pc where the window wiper was.

How do i get them to hold and not pop open? Can't leave well enough alone
