Britain’s 10 fastest and slowest depreciating new cars
Defender in at 7th best, although I'm not sure how they have worked out actual depreciation over 3 years?

Put another way, it's £0.61 per mile over 3 years (12k per annum).

So isn't that significantly better than current finance deals?

Nothing new about that list, I’d only add that Porsche is the only make that I was never able to get any discount on and as a consequence have never owned one. Actually, that’s not quite true, I once bought a brand-new 2CV from a dealer in Luxembourg that was so bottom-end that they begrudgingly “threw-in” a locking petrol cap.

In reality though, the three-year depreciation on the recently introduced Defenders with their already obsolete engines is gonna be a bit more than 31%.

I think I’ll sit it out for a bit...

How much do these list just reflect potential discount? Some of the worst depreciators (Astra) are easy to get large discounts on so bad depreciation based upon list price.

Having worked in the motor trade for many years one phrase stood out more than any - today’s discount is tomorrow’s depriciation. Defender First Edition

Lets also be honest...

That list price of £53K does not allow for any options, I got one to £60K plus without ticking many boxes...

Add that to the fact options are worth very little come resale.

The actual loss to the buyer could be a lot more...

The only things that really surprise me are the little fiat 500 and Peugeot 108 - I'd have thought that 3 year old first time driver run about would have fetched a premium?

I thought the same, maybe it’s very model specific? Ie trim level/engine etc., and cheaper models of the same car do better…
