Anything like this:
http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/...SRC-grease also get the flexible hose with it. I do my propshafts every 3000 miles. I squeeze in as much grease as possible until grease starts coming back out. I then wipe away the excess grease. ![]() |

Thanks - apart from the props, where are the other important greasing points?

I've had a quick check in Haynes Manual and it states every 12,000 miles

If you use it only on-road 12000 miles is OK. A little low on grease is on the road not a problem but off-road water might get is and water is often dirty. So That's why I prefer my before and after off-roading approuch. Roel

Slightly
![]() How do you attach a grease gun to the front UJ of the front propshaft - onto the only nipple almost dead centre ? Rear of the front shaft has the same position nipple and was fine. Did the other 3 UJ's without issue but there is no way the front of the front will take a grease gun. It will attach but not lock on, flexible hose, rotate shaft etc - no way it was going to work. Gave up in the end. Bob |

Bob, sometimes they put the UJs in the wrong way around which means the nipple points the wrong way - it depends on the type of UJ fitted, some are angled some are just on a flat surface and can't be the wrong way around. i dont know what LR are currently using.
Roel - that greasing advice sounds right to me. Cheers James 110 2010 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

I file flats on two sides of the grease nozzle, this makes it much easier.

get yourself a flexible extension for your grease gun. They're only € 5 - 10 at motor factors. Its still not an easy job to do however. Later Defenders do not have nipples on the sliding joints - only on the UJs. Two good pumps are enough. Don't make the mistake I did and keep wacking it in til it comes out of the seals - not good !

Thanks all.
James, that sounds like the problem, the grease nipple on the front UJ points to the front, the one on the back of the front UJ also points to the front so I can get the gun attached. Both are angled. Rossy, got a flexible extension but that does not help. Andy, will give that a try ![]() Bob |

To do it really properly you should unbolt one end (at least) of the propshaft so that you can fully articulate the joints while greasing. Few folk actually do this though.

BW, that is almost what I did out of frustration !
I think James hit the nail on the head, the UJ is fitted the wrong way round so there is no way the gun will connect correctly. I will drop the front shaft at the weekend and do the job properly. Bob |
