Security bolts
Hi all
New proud owner of a puma 90 2012.
I only took delivery last week then to google the door and bonnet theft epidemic.
I'm a worried new owner.
First mod are the hinges. I'm going to put a cycle lock in the bonnet too to prevent or slow down horizontal positioning of the bonnet and theft.

I quiet like the look of pig nose or snake eye bolts, then filling the holes with araldite, body filler or silicone which can be drilled out easily with a small drill bit in future for any maintenance work- see link.

I want to avoid high cost of a replacement so called security hinges and just change bolts to these tamper proof ones.
Do you think it'll work?

My question is about bolt size for the doors boot too, and bonnet hinges. Are they all standard bolts?

They do look good - hopefully someone will have the sizes to help with ordering!

I noticed the posse heads have been changed by the previous owner to Allen bolts.
After some research they are M8 bolts. These take a 6mm hex bit which is easily available.
Decided to go down the epoxy resin and ball bearing route as one can pick up these for next to nothing at the hardware store rather than buying new tamper proof bolts. I'm assuming a 6mm hardened steel ball bearing will hammer home snug into an M8 Allen bolt, bedded in epoxy glue?
Anyone try this?

Kaz.

Hi DrKaz

I was told by Brendan at 4x4 Overland that 5mm stainless steel ball bearings will do the job. He also make security hinges for the bonnet. Optimill supply Urban Truck with realy good quality security hinges but they are laods of money!!

I would reccomend buying a 4x4 Datatag pack which may get your doors/bonnet back if the worst happens.

But more importanly than any of the above.....Check your new Landy has been in and had the oil pump changed if it falls within the vehicles of that year subject to the Q recall (any main dealer should be able to tell you if its listed). My 2012 110 suffered complete engine failure following the oil pump breaking up this summer!!

Harry many thanks.
Will order 5mm ball bearings.
I will take a look at those hinges.
Oil pump failure- better investigate this too.
Loving the car. Quiet a shock from the Volvo XC90 D5 auto, but one that I can't help but smile every time I fire her up.
Yes, she has a name- Dolly the Defender. Very Happy

I would also recommend replacing the door stay pin with a security bolt.
