Re: Thule Roof Rack Option

After reading the article below online, I reached out Thule South Africa about how to configure an after market roof rack since Thule has not released any compatible roof racks in the US for the new Defender. They couldn't have been more helpful and educated me that previously released Thule fit kits are being used for the new Defender in both Europe and South Africa. Below is what you need which I was able to find at online stores or on Ebay. I did mine in all black to match the roof (see pic) and it looks much better (and lower profile) than the OEM dealer option. As important, I am experiencing almost no wind noise. Hope this helps everyone.

Have any pictures of your setup? I’d be interested in doing the same, especially if it’s a little lower profile.

Im also keen to explore other options than the LR rack. Has anyone tried the Frontrunner rack? It looks good to me and is cheaper than the LR rack, but expect it'll cause issues with the antenna and might look a bit odd as it doesn't taper at that back to follow the line of the wings. The FR accessories are more extensive than LR's too (especially like the idea of turning my car into a huge bottle opener!).

I have a roof rack for my LR4 from FrontRunner and it’s great. They just released the Defender racks today. One of them uses OEM rails.

I found the following T-bolts:

M8 #853-0782 and three wing knob #753-0776 from e-trailer.com worked well to secure my recovery boards to the cross bar T-channels and similar M6 t bolt and accompanying wing nut secured my universal mounting plate for RotoPax (4gal) to the genuine roof rack cross-bars worked well. I've put 3000+miles on/offroad including rain and snow with no issues keeping the accessories secured.

I also found these eye bolts (EBH-A2M8) from my 2011 LR4/Disco 4 genuine OEM rack fit well with the New Fender OEM rack

I bought some stainless steel carriage bolts and knurled thumb nuts from Amazon that worked for my accessories.

Also, etrailer.com sell the rubber channel cover if you need to cut smaller lengths around accessories but keep the originals. 1981 Series III 88 Santana Especial

LR factory rack and accessories from Frontrunner
Hello
are there any exact dimensions available on the internet for the original Land Rover Defender rack?

What bolts works with the T-bars? Distance between the T-Bars etc.?

Are Frontrunner accessories compatible with the LR rack?

Is it possible to add LED bars to the LR rack?

Thx for any help. 22MY Defender 110 (actual) | 10MY Freelander 2 (history) | 15MY Discovery Sport HSE (history)

I just installed this exact setup yesterday. I absolutely love the way it looks in all black with my black contract roof.

One quick note. I have the folding fabric roof and because they are lower profile than the LR cross bars one fold of the fabric just barely brushes the front cross bar when the roof is opening. It does not touch at all when it is closing, nor does it touch the rear bar. However what this does mean is that if I have a roof box installed (or any other attachment which wraps around the bars I will not be able to open the roof more than a crack. With t-slot accessories there will be no such problem.

This looks perfect but I have the 90 and i think (because of the bar length) its only compatible with the 110.
