Best new door cards 110 Defender
Dont want to make a mistake and buy some awful door cards made of recycled nappies.... Has anyone bought some cards recently and can recommend a set that is OE quality?

I bought a front door pair from SP last summer. They're well made and look good. But........ fitting them was a different story. I gave up trying to attach them and keep them attached with the standard fittings and ended up using self tappers at the corners and front/rear mid points, and standard fittings where they were co-operative. I may paint the screws black if I can be bothered one day but they look ok as is.

Also, with the seat box carpeted, the panels get pushed in with the doors closed. Without carpet, there's just a tiny fraction clearance. You may have a different experience fitting, but as far as looks and quality, they're good.

The non genuine door cards I’ve seen look dreadful and wouldn’t waste a penny on them. They never line up properly and you can guarantee when you see them fitted extra screws have been added. Worth spending the extra on genuine ones and at least they’ll fit.

we've just done a set on the rear doors and back door of a td5 double cab.

poor at best

clips break off and dont line up.

had to dremel them for ages to get them on the door lock bit on the lh rear was a mile of where it should be.

had to sika flex them in a few places to get them to stop rattling and stay on the door when you closed it.

back oor one needed the dremel round the door lock area, hinge area and the upper edges near the glass otherwise it keep the clips from going home fully.

again some of the fixing points dont line up.

had to open the hole sup where the handle bolts thru as well

Non genuine. But even the genuine ones that I have on my other Defender are a pig to get to stay on and at some point they're heading for the screws remedy. And they don't look anywhere near as good as the non-genuine SP ones held on with screws.

Were these SP cheaper ones or genuine?

Was that a set of SP ones? 1951 80" S1 2.0

It sounds to me like these are issues with the generic one-size-fits-all door cards. There are differences in the inside profile of the TDCi doors from the earlier ones, they're very slight but known to cause incompatibility between different cards. I have noticed the aftermarket door cards being sold as suitable for all years so they'd either be a loose fit on old doors or need trimming on the newer ones, which matches what is being said above.

Genuine part numbers for the correct year should eliminate that, so if people are having issues with genuine then it makes no sense.

Maybe it is because the replacement doors are the poor fit? I had some engineering to attend with the rear wiper motor mounting on an SP galv door... 1951 80" S1 2.0

There may be something in that. Out of the 2 SP cards for the front doors, the one I had most trouble fitting was to an SP replacement galvanised door. The other non-SP door was a lesser problem but I still screwed it down.

I was mostly happy with the SP door except for one thing. The tubes for the hinge bolts were way too long and the nuts would only screw on 2 or 3 threads. I ground the tubes flush, taking off about 0.5cm, but even then the nuts only just made it in to the nyloc. So there was no way that those door anti-theft security plates would go on as well. I raised the matter with SP and they sent me some longer bolts to cut down to size.
