Matrix Led Comparison
I was wondering if anyone has swapped to the new defender from a Range Rover or Range Rover Sport or Velar with the matrix leds with laser. Curious if they are noticeably different?

They made such a fuss in the Range Rover brochures about the different levels of matrix where the ones with lasers had the most active dimming sections. Just trying to determine if I will be “disappointed” with them in comparison to what I have got use to.

I have the premium led and honestly they are really good, I’m very impressed with them. I have read many posts of people complaining about the matrix lights aren’t bright enough, what is the actual differences between the premium led and matrix? Surely the matrix are brighter than the premium?

Not sure on the premium but I wonder if it could be as the matrix adjust that they might not look as bright on the driveway?

My Range Rover matrix are significantly better than the other half’s mini matrix so trying to guage where the defender fits in

Am I right in thinking these matrix headlights just detect oncoming drivers and blank-out the beam so as not to dazzle them?

Thought that was high beam assist which is on all the LED range. The only thing I noticed was matrix have a blue glare to the DRL

The matrix has lots of high beam lights. As the vehicle detects other vehicles the beam pointing at other vehicles goes out. If you are following a car the matrix beams won't light up the back of the car but will light up either side and past the car in front. 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

That’s what high beam assist does

no...high beam assist turns off the main beam when it detects an oncoming vehicle or when sat behind another vehicle. Matrix keep the high beam fully active, but closes small sections of the high beam down, so you don't blind people. 2020 First Ed 110.

Ok that explains the difference, it’s been bugging me for a while now. Thought it seemed an expensive option for different colour lenses lol

I have just realised I currently have pixel laser which is the step up from matrix. It has horizontal and vertical dimming rather than just horizontal dimming. Found these videos that explain it well, either way shouldn’t notice a massive difference I hope!

So what’s the benefit to the driver (ie the person spending the money)?

By dimming the high beam rather than turning it off it allows the high beam to always stay on illuminating anywhere there isn’t another road user

You don't have to pull or push the silly leaver to the left of the steering wheel.
Fully automated.
Better visibility is the big advantage. 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile
