"Want" or "need"?
Not entirely legal to fit strobes (even amber ones) to any old truck. |

The VigiLED ones aren't too bad. they're bright, but can be susceptible to water ingress. They end of getting condensation on the inside of the lens.
These are pretty good- http://www.emergencyequipmentshop.co.uk/su...p-127.html Plus, they're only about 9mm thick.. Most of these LED modules are about 25mm thick. |

No law in the land stopping you having them fitted.
Use is another thing, for example: (vii) a vehicle used for the purpose of inspecting, cleansing, maintaining, adjusting, renewing or installing any apparatus which is in, on, under or over a road, or for any purpose incidental to any such use; |

I've got some enormous American sealed beam rotating beacons - why not fit one or two of those too? ![]() Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. If you only use work lights 'off-highway' then I don't see how it can be illegal. S'up to you innit? Guess the same is true of amber beacons. I think plod might take a dim view if you used it to skip down the outside of traffic when you were late for your tea.... not that that's what they do of course

I think you would need blue beacons to skip anywhere in a hurry and even then many people don't notice as they are so oblivious of what's going on around them. Steve.

A work light can only be used on the public highway or a place to which the RTA applies (including of course green lanes) if it is used in conjunction with an amber beacon or strobes. It is completely illegal under any circumstances to use a worklight, or any white light with an equivalent wattage greater that 21W, as a reversing light.
That being said, the chances of being 'done' for it are fairly small. |
