Rust stain of drivers car mat

Ive not used my Defender for the past month. Got in yesterday and noticed a rust stain on the rubber mat - I checked the pedals thinking it may be from them, but they were dry, and not showing any evidence of rusting. I put my hand up under the lowest part of the plastic trim below the steering wheel, and found rust marks - it came off onto my hands.

Any idea where this may be coming from? I lifted the bonnet and cannot see anything on the bulkhead from that side. There is no rust around the parts of the bulkhead inside which are visible - where the windscreen blocks bolt on. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

Probably the inner part of the bulkhead, the carpets and matts trap condensation.

Here’s mine below the steering column before i prepped and treated it.

2007 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 HT Stornoway Grey

Likely to be from the unpainted & rusting metal bracket that holds the soundproofing / matting to the bulkhead. Has a perfect channel that collects water from any windscreen leaks.
