Non factory Alpine SW1200 question.

I have a non factory alpine Sw1200 I want to hook but going under my second row cubby. The setup diagram suggests I can do this and just tap into the rear speakers? It would be handy to keep all the amp wiring in the rear under the rear seat box. I assume is will then work with any head unit if i swap it later?

Hi Andy,
Yes, believe your suggestion would be to use the high level inputs which essentially isolate and then amplify the bass frequencies being sent to the rear speakers, rather than running RCA cables for low level (but better isolated) frequencies from the headunit.

I've never used high level inputs, but believe that as long as the rear speakers are being driven, it wouldn't matter which head unit you change to in the future.
I suspect, however, that any affecting changes to the bass frequency or fader to the rear speakers would also directly affect the subwoofer?

So in short, I believe the answer to your question is yes, you can. The more subjective question would be, what control you'd loose over a specific bass channel output direct to the sub from the headunit.

(this doesn't clarify whether your subwoofer would be affected by changes to the rear speaker channels at a tonal level)

I've just taken a look at the install manual and it does outline that Subwoofer output will be affected by the fader settings of the head unit.

So if you faded towards the front speakers, then your sub output will drop as the signal is weaker to the rear speakers - whether that's a directly linear drop between the speakers and the sub, I'm afraid I don't know!
