8 ends sloshing around in the sump, you won't get them out with an oil extractor. Razz

Really need to replace mine just in case, it's survived to my knowledge for 10 years so...

How much are they?

My method for removal and extraction is straight in, as soon as there is the slightest feel of resistance a slight twist in one direction only.
Only carefully, and gently and don't twist it back and forth in opposite directions.

Pushing it straight in and pulling straight out is putting a lot more strain on it, it seems the diameter entry a few inches from the bottom is tighter than the tube diameter.

They do fail, but I think it's important to be very gentle and precise with it.

Just my thoughts though. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. β›½οΈπŸ›’οΈπŸ‘¨β€πŸ”§πŸ§°βš™οΈ RED, WHITE & BOOST! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

I believe the sump is different on the Defender, so the Ford Transit dipstick may not give accurate readings/be a different length.

I seem to remember one of the changes Land Rover made to fit it in the Defender was to increase the sump capacity in order to cope with the more extreme working angles encountered off road.

OLD THREAD REVIVAL!

I joined the snapped dipstick crew. Magnets don't work as neither my drain plug or magnetic tool picked it up so fitted a new sump. No marks on the snapped part so no harm done, except to my wallet. WARNING.
