Sometimes the nut that holds the dipstick tube in place can loosen. This allows the dipstick tube to swivel towards the wheel letting the dipstick go further into the oil thus giving you a false high reading. If you can move the dipstick back towards the engine, this is your problem. If it is it is easily sorted. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
