Mud protection options
Ok I’ve tried searching and can’t seem to find a thread/post I stumbled upon earlier so here’s a new thread.

Time has come to replace my mudguard brackets.Has anyone fitted Gwyn Lewis kits (the wheel arch shields) AND
Dirt D-Fenders? I like the functionality of the former and the look of the D-fender but can’t seem to find if the two are compatible? Or if it even makes sense to fit both?

I have the gwyn Lewis mud shields all round on my 90 including the front mud flap kit.

The front works really well, they were fitted about 3 years ago and have kept all the mud out from being trapped against the footwell and outrigger, even after a lot of abuse off road. As for stopping mud spraying up the doors they do a great job, although that does depend on how far out your wheels sit. My tyres sit flush with the outside of the arch and mudflap and it keeps it very clean on road. I haven’t used the dirtdefenders so can’t comment on them.

The rear mud shields in front of the rear wheel arch do a good job of keeping mud out of the top of the arch but do have to clean behind it a lot more often than I thought. As for the rear cross member shields, I have only had them on a month or so now so can’t really comment on them.

ditto

I have a 90 with the Glynn Lewis front wheel shields and the rear cross member shields, I still need to fit the ones at the front of the rear wheels,

I generally only use mine on the road and brought them to stop stone damage as much as mud DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

I have them both on my 130. Probably depends if you get the stepped out mudflap bracket from gwyn. Cheers

I have GL wheelarch sheilds all round on my 90, front and back rear and rear of front. Brilliant. I have dirt d-fenders on the rear of the front arches. Again brilliant. BUT if you want the GL front mudguard relocation Kit to push them out then the dirt D-fenders aren’t needed.

Thanks folks. Sounds like a combination of both might do the job....

I loved this idea when I saw it https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic70904.html. And likely to do it in the spring

That does look pretty neat, sadly my hamfisted nature means I always look for a ready measured and cut solution! Thanks though...

The Gwyn Lewis kit is excellent. I've fitted the front, front of rear wheel arch and the rear mud flap kit to mine, which protects the rear crossmember. There's a write up in my build thread here: https://www.defender2.net/forum/post727189.html#727189 Darren

I fitted Dirt D-Defenders then the Gwyn Lewis kits. Dont mind admitting I was bricking it drilling stuff at the start but now I’ll take the Hilti to anything! The shield kits make a massive difference to crap getting into hard to reach bits underneath. Would’ve been so simple for LR to fit these from the start but I suppose that would’ve denied me the opportunity to feed my new drilling addiction!

You can make your own for the price of a square M of 3mm HDPE and a length of 20mm stainless angle (was on the corner of the bath and save when I redid the bathroom).
