I am in the vicinity of Slough / Langley / Windsor and unfortunately I do not know anyone with extensive Land Rover experience. I am willing to travel for the right vehicle and had thought about aligning behind an AA full inspection as part of the evaluation process. If you have recommendations as to an expert who I could potentially engage all suggestions welcomed.
Best - Dave

AA... worth considering, but I would guess that general inspection ok... for 'specialist' vehicles... you need a 'specialist'

Take a look at these guys...

'old school / well regarded' servicing / modifications mainly... but worth a call to sound out.

As above

Good Luck

Re the AA... save your money, they're about as much use as not bothering! How do I come to that conclusion? - I paid for a full inspection of a 2013 Freelander 2 at a Ford dealer up in Chesterfield, it came back clean with the additional comment that I'd struggle to find a cleaner example for sale anywhere. On that basis I got a one way rail ticket from Winchester and, having insured the car the previous day, jumped on an early train expecting to drive my purchase home that afternoon. Well, that was the plan but when I got there the car had two areas of previous collision damage that had been poorly repaired, one from its early years had rust blisters through the near side front wing & the most recent on the off side rear door not only had poor paintwork that still showed the deep scratches in the filler bodged into the door, it also had bent bare metal on the door when it was opened! Neither of these very obvious issues had been picked up by the inspection, which was done on a dry sunny day. This was in September 2019 & I am still trying to get the AA to refund me the inspection fee plus rail fares... next step is court proceedings!

My advice, buy from a seller who has been recommended & buy as local as you can so there is ease of return if any work needs doing post purchase.

Keith Gott has been around Land Rovers for errr ever, in fact, I remember him well from my AWDC days in the 70's...so he knows a thing or two & not far from your search radius.

Recently took receipt of my D90 from Nene

The good:
- they have stock
- paint touch up gratis (e.g., small rust patches)
- sagging headliner fix gratis
- replaced bonnet at a discount (i had asked to remove chequer plate, they agreed on sale, but ultimately couldn't remove due to bonding mess)
- relatively stress free interactions
- full freedom to test drive, inspect etc

The bad:
- sizable crack in windscreen, offered to replace if an MOT failure today, otherwise not (we all know it will become one in due course)
- very little fuel in tank on pick up
- Dealer spare wheel cover hiding that the spare wasn't matching to other wheels. My fault to be honest, but doesn't sit well with me that they didn't mention it / were complicit
