Disco2 destruction, yikes
Not seen this before, rather sobering the ease with which the central reservation was crossed. I would not like to experience this in a classic Defender.

Yes, I didn't phrase that very well, did I?

It's possible though that a Defender would have absorbed more energy as the roof collapsed onto the driver's head and as a result would not have vaulted the arrestor wires on the central reservation.

When you look at the clip and the amount of traffic, it is truly extraordinary that no other vehicle were involved. I hope the driver was OK, other than a shocking laundry bill and a destroyed car.

Looks like he lost the nearside rear wheel - you can see it bouncing off into the grass.

I had that happen to me not so very long ago (losing that wheel) but I wasn't on the motorway doing 60 or 70 and thankfully there was no-one else around.

As Discomog said, I wouldn't like to do that in anything. In fact I'd be very happy never to even see such a thing happening. Donald

Its the M4 25 miles west of Swindon - there is a glimpse of a sign

Bloody hell. As pointed out by Donmacn it looks like a near side front wheel failure. Wonder if it was loose or sneered bolts? I got more and more tense waiting that first minute. Hope they were ok.

As an aside, I love the fact that when foreigners learn English, swearing in English so often becomes their default setting. Especially the 'F-word' as there's arguably no better word for a moment like this. Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

Traffic on the opposite carriageway appears to me to be stopping (I guess it could just be slowing down). I have no doubt that several people will have stopped.

To be honest I am not sure that I'd expect the dashcam owner to stop since obstructing the hard shoulder, crossing a live carriageway strewn with debris, and entering another live carriageway with a wrecked vehicle is an exceptionally hazardous undertaking and would undoubtedly attract criticism. It is entirely possible that the reason the trucker slows and pulls back to L1 is that he's already dialling the emergency services to report the incident (and tell them it is caught on camera), as well as checking in his mirror that people on the other side are stopping.

I think Blackwolf is correct. A similar thing happened to me a few years ago on the M18 where a van had a blow out immediately in front of me in Lane 2 and finished up going over the central armco onto the opposite carriageway. I immediately pulled onto the hard shoulder and dialled 999 while at the same time checking that someone had stopped to help on the other carriageway. The driver behind me also pulled on the hard shoulder to check that I was ringing for the emergency services.

It is just too dangerous to even think about getting out and crossing over five or six lanes of fast moving traffic who are no doubt rubber necking and not paying attention to the road ahead. Defender 90XS SW
