England 1996 Defender 110 300 Tdi USW Bonatti Grey
[For Sale] Karitek Tilt n Slide Roof Rack
Karitek Easy Load Roof Rack. Used but in good condition.

Manufactured for carrying canoes and kayaks on high roof vehicles, but comes complete with factory supplied brackets for accepting 2 x Thule 591 bike racks, which I used with this rack to carry bikes (Thule bike racks not included).
It has inbuilt T Track system for attaching carriers and roof boxes etc using T bolts

The Karitek clamps to roof bars and then pulls out and tilts down for easy loading of canoes & kayaks (brackets not included), or bikes/roof boxes etc, then lifts back up and slides back & locks into position.
This allows items to be loaded onto Defenders and high roof vehicles with ease.

I had this rack fitted to my Defender using Thule roof bars (for sale separately). I used it to carry bikes and a roof box. I've now sold my Defender so this is surplus to requirements.

Cost aver £500 from Karitek when new.

£325

Located in Sheffield South Yorkshire

WarPig, that looks a brilliant bit of kit Thumbs Up

Wondering whether it’s substantial enough to raise a roof tent onto the bars? What’s your thoughts?

Not really, it's designed to carry a smaller weight, ie kayak or bikes.

I had a commercial version on my van for work and looked at the weight limits and even those were only upto 40kg across both platforms

The difficulty other than the limits of the load bearing is trying to get the weight back up...you still have to lift it up Wink

I wouldn't say that it's made for that.
I've lifted the rack back up with two bikes on and a full roof box, but its a heavy lift (depending on the weight of whatever is on the rack).
Its great for bikes, canoes and a roof box, but i imagine a roof tent would be too heavy, not only to lift, but putting strain on the rack when lifting etc.

Couldn't you paddle up the coast of England, turn left at the Humber and navigate to Sheffield? Very Happy

Hmm..may take a while!!

Why not take a break and come on holiday to central or south of France and drop it off!? You can even park your caravan in my garden if you want and those mountain bikes will be directly on the trails Smile

Oh, and no need to quarantine, unlike me coming to you...

Thanks, it was you that got me onto the idea of using a Karitek.

By the way, I think we conversed on the Caravan Talk forum, they banned me for trying to alert members to the current leaks on Kampa awnings !!!!
