Can you run different tyre brand on front and rear axles?
Hi guys

Perhaps a stupid question.. and long story why... but can I run new tyres on the back for a week or so on my Puma until the new ones are fitted on the front? They are the same size.

Thanks

yes the centre diff makes up for different sizes, (don't use diff lock on grippy surfaces though, which you should not anyway as the transmission will wind up very quickly) DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

I've actually been running slightly different front and rear diff ratios for 200,000 miles with no ill effects, so provided the difference is not extreme it will do no harm!

The reason for this slightly odd situation is that I have an Ashcroft 3.5:1 HD ring and pinion in the front diff, but the standard P38 3.54:1 ring and pinion in the rear.

Yes, you won't have a problem unlike some other 4x4s which can need all 4 tyres at once. Cheers

Shouldn't you rather run the new tyres on the front axle, since that's the steering axle? --

Front ones are getting changed next week. Tyre garage couldn't undo one of the front lug nuts for some reason! So my job when the rain stops.
