Stunning 2011 Defender 110 Coyote 5.0 V8 on the block at Silverstone Auctions in November. Luke showed it to me yesterday when I picked up a clutch. Stunning piece of detailed engineeringand finish . He started it up, what an incredible sound. I did not see it run but with a 5.0-litre ‘Coyote’ Gen 2 V8 engine with 450bhp and 550Nm topping out at 8000 rpm it must go like s**t off a brick.
If someone gets it for the £50 - 60K estimate they will be getting a bargain.

Hi Jeebs I only saw the 12.5% but missed the 20% Thats eye watering. It is though a most beautifuly finished motor and is a credit to Luke.

So I presume the auctioneer also takes a selling fee from the seller on top of the 12.5% + VAT the buyer pays?

If it goes for 60k there’s potentially another 19.5k to pay in fees. Nice defender, but I think for that money id be off to Richmond to Twisted. You’d at least get some form of warranty/after sales support!

Makes complete sense using a coyote though to my mind.

Bolts straight to an MT82... It just thinks it's a Mustang.

Stand to be corrected but I think the VAT only applies to the buyers premium of 12.5%. So if the hammer price was £50k, the total payable would be £50k + £6.25k buyers premium + £1.25k VAT on the premium = £57.5k.

I think you'd be paying a lot more than 60k for a Twisted V8 with similar spec. 60 will get you poverty spec.

As for the manual gearbox, mated to the Coyote, I'm led to believe that that is the recommended option. LS3 prefers auto, but the way the Coyote revs, it works better in the Def with manual. Think I learnt that from JE Engineering or similar. But in a Def I like the idea of manual. But it'll never happen as in France we cannot swap fuel types even if we put in a larger lump. So I'm heading down the M57 route. Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

Thanks guys, you have it wrong though, its 20% VAT on the 12.5% not the whole sale price!!!


PS its not a Mustang drivetrain its a hybrid box to accept the LT230!

For a big V8 thats a great price compared to others on the market at nearer twice the price! And on a galv chassis!

Was it always built to sell Luke? I'm always surprised people do these conversions then seem to sell straight away Shocked James

Think I'm confused now.

It's a Coyote V8 principally a Mustang powerplant. Bolted to an MT82 which either bolts to a coyote or a puma in the same bell housing?

The transfer case isn't too much of a worry as it bolts to the back end of something already installed in every puma.

So you just swap the puma for the Coyote, bolt straight in as if it's a Mustang to the MT82, and then everything downstream of that can stay the same?

Or have I missed something?

I'm not criticising.... I think it's a superb idea. I'd far prefer it over an LS3 auto personally. Everything can stay the same bar the actual engine which is the beauty to me.
