Well, with hindsight, I wish I had.

But when do they go bad? Or should I test every 10,000 miles? It's quite time consuming and expensive to remove and test. Although, it doesn't need to be an accurate test, on a different car, I've taken out injectors and run each of them into a separate plastic cup for a few seconds and compared one against the other. Shows if one is very bad.

With these disasters stories being caused by injectors, is it worth taking out the injectors and sending them for testing?

Maybe at 50,000 miles or something?

Curious to know from those who had the unfortunate mishap if there were any tell tell signs before the failure. Strange noises? Ticking noises? 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Removed injector from the engine, but fiddled with loom and fuel lines so one could still be run. Ran for, say, 20 seconds and see how much fuel was collected in plastic cup. Do the same for each of the injectors, one was very much more than the others.

When I was having a proper argument about the first failed engine, I removed all four injectors and sent them off to be properly tested, which would be the same as above, but with a dedicated test rig and calibrated. Cost about £100.

Actually thats why I asked. My 2.2 sometimes makes ticking noise, mostly happens if I select wrong gear and engine is loaded more for a given rpm. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

So, new(-ish) engine in and all is running well. But, I'm now a little concerned about the oil pump recall. This was done on my previous engine as it was tied to the VIN, I don't know the VIN for the original vehicle for this engine.

Is there some way of tracking down the VIN from the engine number? I'm assuming LandRover wouldn't be interested in telling me.

Are there any external indication on the engine to show if it was in the problem batch (sump pan design change, etc)?

As per. Dinnu

Just treat it as a service item as it’s better to be safe rather than sorry!
You should be able to pick up the parts for just over £120 ish.
