Thanks for the demo. very usefull!
Does anyone know of a rack that can carry 45kg? I have two EMTB that weigh 22kg each. This Thule rack is limited to about 35kg (I think). |

I have the Thule folding bike rack and carry a my Specialized Kenevo and the wife's Levo.
It's towbar mounted so works on both wife's Velar and my 90 with an extention to clear the spare wheel. I prefer wheel mounted racks and not frame mounted . That particular design won't work with the new Defender unless someone knows of an extension piece that can be added to the tow ball  Click image to enlarge |

That’s exactly the problem I have. Currently using a tow ball mounted Thule on my velar, but the new defender is arriving in the next few weeks! |

Google Thule raider, it was an excellent rear wheel cycle carrier. Sold mine 3 years ago so still out there somewhere.

The problem with spare mounted carriers is that they are best suited to bikes with a (or almost) horizontal top tube , ie road, gravel or a 1990's hard tail mountain bike.
Any modern full suspension (let alone full sus e bike) has different frame shapes and rear suspension layouts. Even couples that ride together will have different bikes with different layouts. Yes you can buy a connector thing that creates a false horizontal top tube but i certainly would not trust it with the weight of a swinging e bike. Let the wheels take the weight, not the frame. |

Hi 100inch,
What is the name of that rack? Do you have a link? Do you think that would work on the new Defender with an electrically deployable tow ball? So many questions!!!! I completely agree with Markb110 that the wheels should take the weight, but I also want to be able to open the rear door, so your rack could be perfect. |

Click image to enlarge I use the maxraxx carrier (shown without the top bar). For my original 110 (what do we call these now - “classic Defender”?) I have it mounted on a flange that fits my 2” receiver. For the new 110, it fits over the tow ball. Both systems work well. My bike is a hard tail so it has a crossbar that suspends the bike on the carrier. I was wondering how I’d handle a ladies bike with no top tube. My wife doesn’t currently want to ride with me so it’s just me and my son but that’s where I can see the benefit of a rack that seats the bike rather than suspends it. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

Do you have a ploblem that the number plate and rear lights are obscured by this solution? The Police here in Switzerland are really hot on that sort of thing! |
