United Kingdom 2002 Defender 110 Td5 DCPU Keswick Green
Door Hinge Choices
The door hinges on my DCPU will need renewing when it gets rebuilt after Christmas. I am not sure which hinges to go for though. I would like some which look at least similar to the original style hinges which rules out Optimill and Croytec etc.

Dont want to use aftermarket standard style hinges as I have found these just don't last. Standard Genuine ones are too expensive for what they are.

Then we move onto the bewildering choice of aftermarket aluminium/stainless hinges which I have currently looked at the following:
- YRM Stainless ones - only come in polished which i don't like and will be a faff to paint.
- Powerful UK ones - reasonable value (comparatively) but their description of them doesn't fill me with confidence.
- Gore Products - I like these ones but the price is just too high for my budget at £710!
- Lode Lane from Exmoor - These are my current preference at just under £500 for the set and very original looking - https://www.exmoortrim.co.uk/black-defende...e-set.html

Does anyone have any experience/feedback or suggestion of other possibilities please?

Cheers,

My DCPU has OEM style stainless hinges from 2 different suppliers:

The front set were from SP4x4 when they did a piano black version of these https://www.sp-4x4.com/product_p/da1951.htm I was unable to buy a full set due to supply problems. The 2nd row set is a satin finish pair from PowerfulUK which I resprayed with gloss Hammerite. They are identical and have been on the vehicle for ~2 years without any problems.

I like the Gore Products’s option but they are out of stock and I don’t seem to get a reply each time I ask as to whether they are likely to be back in stock any time soon.
I like the security aspect of them, expensive but depends on what you want!

Thanks Intercept, that is good to know. Maybe I will look more carefully at the Powerful UK ones. The satin black finish would be fine for me i think.

From your shortlist Steve I would be very tempted to go for the Lode Lane Premium ones. Good choice Thumbs Up Defender 90XS SW

I bought Croytec Hinges about 6-7 years ago, and they are still in perfect condition, very happy with them

I've recently fitted GORE bonnet and rear door hinges. Beautiful works of art, and superbly made. They should have been framed and hung on my living room wall. Almost brought a tear to my eye to have to fit them. One day I'll get the door hinges. Fortunately I only need them for 2 doors.

I have the Gore bonnet hinges and window blocks, they are a thing of beauty ( yes very sad ) I was a bit concerned about the bonnet hinges as they are big and chunky but they look like they belong .

If only they would reply to my e mails asking as to whether they will be producing the door hinges again, very frustrating.

I've got Gore rear door hinges on mine and they are excellent, as well as being fully rebuildable. And of course the front door ones, which I'd love (but they never have any stock), look great as there's no exposed fastenings so they're more secure.

I only just fitted the rear ones in time too. The original LR bottom and middle hinge pins were merely pimples of rust when I finally fitted them, that after only six years from new and regular lubrication. If the top one had let go, the door would have fallen off!

Try their direct email address - gore.products.ltd@gmail.com

I've had several good responses from Rachael via this.
