For those considering a retrofit of the OEM sub and who, like me, don’t have the benefit of the factory loom present when they remove the cubby box, Martin does provide a beautifully constructed loom at a very modest cost which does in quick time what I have failed to achieve over a number of spoiled and sweary weekends. Co1 Member Since: 19 Aug 2018 Location: North Yorkshire Posts: 3611	Not necessarily Hugh. You will probably have to connect the other end of that plug which sits behinds the head unit. If it’s like mine it was just wrapped up out of the way. You may need to get an adaptor loom to go from that to the head unit. Martin sells them for not a lot of cash.

Couldn’t figure it out so took it to local autoelectrics place figured out it needed separate power to the sub. https://instagram.com/bentheoandrews

Martin Site Admin Member Since: 02 Apr 2007 Location: Hook Norton Posts: 6478	If the factory plug is present for the sub under the cubby you will still need the short adapter lead from RCA (phono) x2 to the small grey plug behind the radio - LR040847 - these are not cheap though! (£40+VAT). Although I have made these up in the past. Also check for presence of fuse 21P under the steering wheel.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW

My 2013 Defender came with the factory subwoofer. From almost new I switched to an Alpine flip-out head-unit. All worked fine on that. From what I remember I just connected the 2 RCA's behind the head-unit for audio and nothing else. Used the Mudstuff ISO adapter for all other wiring. Recently I changed to a new head-unit, but I cannot get the subwoofer to work. The only difference is that the head-unit has only a single subwoofer RCA output, so I bought and fitted a Y-adapter. But still no sound from the subwoofer. From the plug at the subwoofer I do measure 12v. Does anyone have an idea what I'm missing here? Does the subwoofer need a 'wake-up' signal just like amplifiers? Does it maybe have a fuse inside the unit that I might have broken with my tinkering? Would appreciate any help here. Next step would be to get Martin's loom to bypass all existing wiring, but his shop is still closed.

power to factory sub when you have the plug under cubby Hi. So I’ve been though all the threads I can find on this subject but I’m still slightly confused. Hopefully someone can give me the definitive answer (and sorry if this is really stupid) I have a 2013 puma and the factory head unit. I’ve bought the factory sub (with built in amp and one cable) and I have the sub loom under the cubby box. I have ordered the rca to loom cable that will fit from the head unit to the plug behind the dash. Will this be enough to get the sub working? Or will I still need to power the sub / amp and if so how do I do it? Do I need to do something to the single grey plug on the sub? Has anyone done this they can post pictures? Many many thanks Ed.
