Radio Problems

I have owned my Td5 90 since April 2002, it was x demo. I have had really no problems over the 100,000 miles. However the radio cassette is very temperamental. It would be easy just to replace but would like to keep as original as possible. I have checked for loose wiring etc but cant find any reason why is suddenly starts then stops working, Any clever ideas?
