Security nuts!
I have read a lot of posts recently about stripped Defenders, most seem to have been stripped in plain sight in car parks, the LRO defender was the latest I’ve read Shocked

What security fixings are best to use? Bombproof door hinges and bonnet security hinges I’ve got covered
But what to use for standard nuts and bolts? Eg accessories bolted to roof racks like foxwing, ozpod and light bars Etc

I’ve googled it and lots are out there but are there any recommendations? 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

A few different options on eBay and the like, the problem is a lot of the Censored nts buy the master key kits.

The other option depending on what it is could be a simple blob of weld on the bolt/nut, nothing complicated but causes noise if it’s to be removed. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Shear nuts work well (until you need to remove them).

Seriously though it is a losing battle with the advent of modern cordless power tools, nothing is safe. Big Cry

If they want it they will have it, but adding something that causes noise and time to remove often means the opportunist moves on Thumbs Up 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

^^^^^

This.

I swapped all my exterior stuff with a mix of types - just complicates things for the scumbags. Added a Defender Security Hinge kit, bonnet release security plates, relocated OBD port etc.

For me it's about making it more difficult so they move on. Rgds.

I’ve added a few bits and bobs but like others are saying it really only (slightly?) delays the process of stripping should you be unfortunate and targetted. Could lead to additional damage being caused in the process of bypassing also? I’m not saying don’t add security, definitely do! But some things to consider. There’s no failsafes.

I have CCTV on mine at home as well as a tracker. Thoughts being perhaps it could lead to recovery or a conviction shouod the unthinkable happen. Not that convictions worry them > 110 XS Double Cab

Hi all,

I think we've all had this dilemma. I looked at lots of security fixings and as an earlier post says, they are all available for the scrotes to purchase as well, so they simply eye the vehicle and it's security fittings up, purchase the same one and return and carry out the dastardly deed.

I decided noise and time were the two things to deter the b******s, so I neatly filled all my exposed screw heads with a 'plastic metal' body filler, then painted them all to match my body colour, so this makes them almost invisible.

I figured/hoped this would take them ages to grind out the filler, necessitating probably some form of electric grinding(Dremel or something similar), by which time all the street would be aware of their prescence, thus hopefully keeping my vehicle safer.

ps Before anyone states the obvious, I know, if I ever had to remove them it would be a PITA, but I have time and can be noisy

Regards
