I don't pretend to be an expert, but I think that you are probably right in thinking it is a Peregrine, or possibly a Hobby. Certainly an impressive bird, lovely sight!

Difficult to gauge the size ? but, given the shape and movement, I think you are correct.

Yep, Peregrine.
Watching West Brom play a couple of winters back, a Peregrine would often circle the stadium just before dark then head up under the stand to roost. It started with a kiss, never thought it would come to this. SIII CSW Safari, limestone, (JAC 914N). Where is she now? It's not a car, it's a way of life! |

The tail on the bird matches a juvenile peregrine, which can appear to have more of a fan than an adult.

Kites are usually quite a bit bigger and have a defined v in the tail. We do get the odd one over the farm, usually around lambing time. It is nice to see something other than a buzzard- at times there can be 6 or more catching the uplift.
There is also a pair of goshawks not a million miles away. With all of the shoots locally there is no shortage of food for them. They’ve been breeding for the last few seasons in the middle of one of the shoots. Happily the keeper sees it as a good thing. |
