Defender Security Bonnet Hinges

As above, what is the consensus with these hinges?

I fitted a set of the Mud U.K. ones to one of my Defenders years ago but I am unsure how effective they really are.
I have to say that the Defender in question is currently in storage so has never seen the light of day for a long time.

I always thought that you could just unscrew the hinge to bulkhead bolt rather than the bonnet bolts which are shear nuts which rather defeats the purpose of them.

I am in the process of fitting layers of security to my current Puma and wondered if it was actually worth the price and effort to fit them on this vehicle.
Yes I know that there are voices that will say that better to have them than not given the steal ability of the bonnet itself.

I thought perhaps the Dirt Monkey Hinges from 4x4 overland looked a better option as they cover the hinge to bulkhead bolt.
More expensive but just looking to see what others opinions are.

The bulkhead part of the hinge is welded to the bulkhead.

They won't stop your bonnet being stolen but they will delay the thieves and possibly make them go to easier prey.

The bonnet part of the hinge is connected to the welded part on the bulkhead by a “ Security Bolt “ though.

True, but decent security hinges will come with an effective security bolt of some kind for that purpose.

I just put stainless steel bolts all over the car with resin in each one! Again, it won’t stop them but may make them go elsewhere

T27 from a Halfords Advanced set!

I am in no way criticising the supplying company, I was just asking if it were that easy to remove the hinge bolt does it not kind of defeat the purpose of the security aspect of it.

I prefer my hinges to be body coloured ( just my preference ) and albeit Defenders are Scumbag magnets, I would prefer not to have something that catches the eye of said scumbag anymore than it already does.

And it would be an awful shame to paint those things anyway😱

Yes, I prefer my hinges to be body colour as well.

The black Optimill hinge doesn’t look to far off the black of my Defender so I’m happy.

I got the naka ones from Mud, not to prevent the bonnet being stolen but so that I could remove the bonnet without having to take the front hoop of the cage off

Suppose the Optimil Hinges on a Black Defender wouldn’t be that noticeable right enough.
They do look very nice though.

My current list of modifications at the moment is rapidly spiralling out of control😫

Don't get too excited. I've been waiting since December last year for some of the Gore rear door hinges to become available again.
