Service light on a puma defender
Dumb question probably..... I am a wannabe puma owner, does the defender have a service light that comes on when it’s due and if so how do I switch it off when I have performed my own service.

No - a sensible question.
Yes there is a service interval light on the dash.
You can reset it yourself.
Others on the forum recommend the following:
1. Turn the ignition on and immediately press both brake and accelerator pedals simultaneously full down for 15 seconds.

2. When the oil light (picture of an oil can) starts to flash turn off the ignition.

3. Release the brake and accelerator pedals simultaneously.

4. Wait for two full minutes.

4. Turn on the ignition and see if the OIL SERVICE message has gone. If not repeat the procedure exactly.

There is no service light on Defenders.
However, on the 2.2 you'll see a note in the dashboard indicating OIL SERVICE if necessary.
There's a pedal combination (pedal clutch) resetting this note

O.K. Just to clarify a bit - Defenders up to 2.2 pumas (that is 90/110, 200tdi, 300tdi, TD5 and 2.4 Puma) do not have a service interval warning light.

From the above the 2.2 Puma might have one (ish) Cool Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right.

I can say for sure that up to including the 2.4 PUMA there was no 'service light' necessary, as the drivers still had brain ... Happy Monday! Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.

To clarify for the OP.
The Oil Service light is on puma's with a DPF.
The engine management system guesstimates the oil dilution due to injection of extra diesel during the DPF regeneration.
This wasn't necessary on pre DPF Pumas and Defenders etc.

Other service items are of course not affected and follow the normal timescales.

I can confirm the above works on a 2.2 Puma as I've just done it Smile

It counts miles and days - and compares the result with the limits indicated in the service hand book.

From my point of view it is more a counter than a sophisticated management system. Laughing

Yep - I had my 2015 Puma serviced before the indicator came on (12 monthly), the garage forgot to reset or didn't know it even existed.
3 weeks later, the indicator came on. I'm pretty sure it wasn't telling me to go for another service, so I just reset (from memory, it took 3 or 4 attempts).
