Canada 2004 Defender 110 Td5 CSW Alpine White
AC Condensor
2004 110 TD5. doesn't have a bump out grille. NO fan on condenser. this is how the car was when i got it. AC works but condenser leaks. its under-dash type but i think maybe dealer installed instead of LR installed hence the no fan. i need to replace the condenser but unsure of what brand or where to source one. i already bought a bump out grille for the car and am considering an electric fan on the condenser to help. is it worth it? if so how to trigger as i don't think the AC talk to the ECM with it being aftermarket.

Well that’s not a LR condenser that’s for sure.

Have a look at aftermarket Defender aircon kits and see if any match up with yours. I wouldn’t bother with a fan if the aircon works as it is. The viscous fan runs continually to an extent and will pull some air through at all times.

The Britpart condenser looks a similar shape to yours.

I'm sure it's not a LR unit.

But not to worry, it's more like a generic condenser.

Seems like your slam panel support has been modified as well to fit it.

It's nice and cool in Canada, so i don't see it as an issue and if the viscous fan is running, it will pull air thru it.

I have a generic air con unit on mine as well, and it doesn't talk to the ECU.

Pro:
less things to go wrong. stand alone circuit and operation.
the pressure valves and relays are all independent to trigger

Cons:
You can find the compressor cutting in at the wrong time and losing some power while trying to pull away
However, the ECU will know how to compensate for the drop in idle RPM.

If it's talking to the ECU, depending on the rpm, the ECU actually will increase fuelling and it's something that is worth considering, to make it talk to the ECU, to over come that power drop.

Having said that, i've survived over 16yrs with it not taking to the ECU. I won't say it's necessary but more a nice to have.

Replacing the condenser requires one that fits, that's all. If you want to fit the fan, then you can tie it together with the relay that when the AC clutch is engaged the fan will also run. From the land of the most expensive land rover defenders on planet earth. At �125k for a XS 110 csw and you get to own it only for 10yrs! Please find me a good reason to stay on this island.
