Defender X price premium
I'm presently a D4 V8 owner so will very likely own a new Defender at some point, so first post here, but long time member over at the D4 forum.

I've been playing with the Build Your Own but I can't make sense of the pricing. The base model pricing doesn't seem to bad, but I could buy a brand new Japanese 4wd ute, and a new hatchback for my staff for the price of the options.

In particular can anyone explain where the X model premium comes from? In NZ dollars is nearly $30k over an SE built to as near as I can see identical specifications and engine. I tried the UK build with the same result.

The X doesn't even seem to come with full leather, just some fancy named cloth for the seat centres.

not sure how close the NZ specs are to the Aussie market

for example in Australia you get the following on the X as standard but not on the P400 SE

TR2, APTC, ediff, contrast/Panoramic roof, recovery eyes, matrix headlights, metallic paint, Satin grey wheels, 14 way memory seats,
veneer finishings, leather steering wheel, extended leather finish, different cabin lighting, meridian surround sound,
Heads up display

are you able to download the specs guide so you can review them side by side for the NZ market. yet another pommie bar steward down under

The bulk of those X accessories can be added to the lower models in a custom build and you still end up a substantial amount cheaper for not having the X badge.

So far only the top model headlights and the painted recovery eyes don't appear in the lower model options.. (they do in the UK market).

Exact reason I didn't go for the X. Could spec an HSE up to the same level for less money. Plus didn't like the colour combinations they force you to have with the X.

Exactly, hence my decision to go with the SE and add what I needed yet another pommie bar steward down under
