I wouldn’t bother with an “uprated” one, best to fit the Land Rover OE one.
Although anti-roll bars don’t generally wear out. If you do need a new one, don’t pay new prices, try Twisted Automotive for a new “take off” one at about £18 |

Standard ARB is 19mm Alives is 32mm i think. Makes quite the difference in corner if youre that way inclined.

My first 90 no anti roll first corner on a country lane almost ended on it side after 3 years with a cart sprung series 2 88 with xcl skinny tyres that would drift nicely at roundabouts current defender county td5 with factory anti roll bars corners almost flat Christ knows what trouble I would get into with 32mm anti roll bars tbh the std factory fit is pretty good

I ended up with the Alive one and I am very pleased with the results.

If the Alive one is “uprated” then you need to fit the matching front one as well, or you could mess up the handling of the vehicle.
If you were in an accident and it was discovered that you’d altered the suspension it could affect your claim, as the loss adjusters could argue that it unduly affected the characteristics of the vehicle. |

I don't know how you guys drive but I have no ARB's under my 90 td5 and also had no ARB under my CT Disco.
![]() Click image to enlarge Yes they hang over in a fast corner but never got one on 2 wheels so surely not on it's side. With a defender its always a compromise. If you want to hit roundabouts as fast as you can then get an uprated (thicker) one. I thought about doing mine but read reports of a harsher ride as each side of the axle cant push up as easily/individually.
Also an uprated one with decrease flex a lot. Hence why nost die hard off roaders dont have arb's at all. Another thing to consider is load. If youve got a roof rack with gear up top and a roof tent maybe the uprated one would be an idea as i dont think the standard one is up to the task. When i load up the back of my 90 really heavily its a bit wallowy even with the standard bar. I think the genuine LR one is a good compromise between road handling and flex. |

As with so many things, it was designed that way for a reason, so keep it standard. I have learnt this lesson to my cost over the years - a lot of things I have 'upgraded' I have ended up reverting to standard. Not always the case, but often times it is.
Obviously if your Defender is very modified away from its original specification (weight, performance) then 'upgraded' components start to make sense. All of these things are a balance, but Land Rover have spent time and money (believe it or not) reaching a specification that works and achieves the optimum balance of characteristics, so it makes sense to take advantage of that. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green |
