2002 Defender 90 Td5 XS CSW Java Black
Still got this issue and it has been in the garage for 4 days now and they cannot work it out.

Black smoke at low revs and it feels hesitant when accelerating hard.

There does not seem to be any leaks in the system (according to the garage) so I am at a loss!

Would a faulty EGR cause this issue? It only does its chugga chugga intermittently. No faults that relate to any of this sadly.

Although there was an initial fault code P1103- 00 - Mass air flow sensor in range but higher than expected.

Any ideas greatly appreciated. I might try and do a smoke test on the engine to see if there any leaks that are not apparent to the naked eye.

Just to follow my issues up.

Check all hoses and inter cooler and found no splits or cracks. We did a pressurised smoke test on it and found no hairline cracks either.

Swapped the EGR.....same symptoms. Black smoke and surging acceleration.

Changed all 4 injectors.....and all sorted!

No fault codes flashing up so it was a tricky one to diagnose but very glad to have sorted it eventually.

Thanks
