Primer Colour Advice
I've rubbed down some corrosion patches, then used Upol acid etch primer in grey with several coats of land rover Firenze red on top. The patches stand out as a lot lighter than the surrounding paint work.

I'm wondering if I should have used a darker primer. Anyone got any ideas?

- Thanks

Red is the worst colour for fading. Could it be you new colour is correct, but the rest had lightened with age?

ETA Just read the new is lighter, so forget that. I’ll get my coat Thumbs Up 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Thanks, yes the new appears lighter. I tried layering quite a few coats expecting it to darken, but I can see the outline of the primed area. I'm leaving it to thoroughly dry for now. I've yet to sand the paint or apply the lacquer. I'm hoping to avoid having to take it to a professional & having to explain what I've done. Smile

If you are patch spraying a panel - it will be extremely Difficult to blend the red in without seeing any difference - probably best to spray the whole panel - dark colours are easier to blend in 2017 Range Rover L405 Vogue SE V8 Diesel #16

Unfortunately firenze red has very poor opacity. sand and add more coats you'll get there in the end.
You could have used a darker primer but then you would have had a problem with a dark patch showing through.

Thanks, I sanded it and put lots of coats on. It got a bit better but I could still see the patches. After adding the laquer layers & polishing & putting the number plate and ladder back on I decided it doesn't really show too much & besides its a defender.
