OK, my knowledge on cameras is limit to non existent.

my 130 is about to have a full rear body added and reversing it (especially onto a hitch) is going to be slightly harder (hicap extra body width not helping to see the trailer!).

i am considering a stand alone camera system, ie not stereo integrated. does anyone have any practical experience/recommendations of what they have used and its worked?

ideally looking for something robust, waterproof and discrete, wired (less to go wrong) and a dedicated screen that i can screw to the dash over a windscreen type fitment. Cheers

The rear view mirror on our 110 DCPU was more or less useless as the view was obscured by the spare wheel mounted in the rear tub and the windows in the rear canopy being filthy usually so I removed the rear view mirror and replaced it with a 7" screen.

As i have already got some other gubbins in the centre console which prevented me from having a double DIN or pop out screen head unit then I wanted to find a different solution. I was originally going to fit one of the rear view mirrors with integrated screen such as this one:
http://defenderupgrades.co.uk/product/land...nitor-kit/

But i later discovered that the mirror is deeper and wider than standard and prevents the use of the sunvisors which I didn't want.

I was also thinking of mounting a screen on top of the dash on my TD5 but I have a phone holder in place of the ashtray already.

After a bit of measuring I bit the bullet and bought a 7" HD screen and twin lens camera from here:
https://www.reversingcamerasuk.com/heavy-d...nitor.html
https://www.reversingcamerasuk.com/twin-le...nsors.html

The quality of the parts is superb and I was able to use one of their double cables for the cameras to ease installation. The cameras have the advantage of proper waterproof connectors and are powered from the screen.

I made a bracket which allows the screen to be mounted from the original rear view mirror position on the headlining and positions it as close to the windscreen as possible (infact the mount actually sits against the glass with a layer of neoprene foam):

The camera unit is mounted to the rear of my roofrack.

One lens points backwards to give a good image of following vehicles (or trailer if towing) and the other is pointed down at the towing hitch. The screen allows three inputs which can be triggered by external triggers. I intended to connect the camera that looks down to the reverse light so it switched automatically but it is quite useful to use the other camera unless you want to reverse up to a hitch or upto a wall etc. so i just manually switch it.

My only criticism is that the camera/screen swaps between normal and night vision when on the motorway at night as bright car headlamps pass. It doesn't bother me particularly once you are used to it but it is easy to power the screen off at night if required.

it does take a little bit of getting used to but it is a great setup.

The sun visors can be hinged down to vertical but not quite back to the glass. The screen isn't obscured by them.

Let me know if you want any other info.

Cheers,

Fitted this to my motorhome

One camera is as rear view camera, and the other switches to hitch, when reverse is selected.

Avoid the cheap ebay ones as the lens soon fog up and the wiring is not long enough to run down a 130. we have a brigade one on teh sprinter and any of the truck/hgv ones seem to be ok .had a few including a vision one on lorries at work and tehy al do well in low light and last well.

the lorry ones can also have 2 cameras one that is live all the time and one that pops up when you hit reverse.(what was on my old van and very useful) plus they can have parking sensors linked in.

I know specified wired but I fitted this AUTO-VOX W-7 Reversing Camera Digital Wireless Reversing Camera Kit Stable Signal Reverse Camera IP68 Waterproof Rear View Camera with Clear Image Backup Camera and used the adhesive patch to attach the sender unit inside above the rear door so that there was no obstructions. Brilliant picture on the monitor. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

I have fitted a rear view mirror with a built in Dash Cam and Rear camera into both our 110’s.
The mirror clips over the original mirror wtih a long cable to a rear camera and a forward facing camera built in.
It has a water proof rear camera that can be mounted in an appropriate position to give a continual rear view and can be adjusted from the touch screen to pan up and down to give a better view if reversing.
Plus giving you the advantage of a simultaneous forward and rearward dash cam recordings.

Be careful with the size of the screen you use if you place it in front of the windscreen. Vosa stopped me once in my 130 and gave me a warning as my screen was too big and was obstructing a % of the windscreen. I said but all its obstructing is the view of the bonnet. This comment fell on deaf ears. I got told to remove it or else. So I simply lowered it as it was adjustable, here is a pic of it in the raised position.

I've got a double din Alpine head unit in mine - Alpine sell the camera kits to go with it and the unit supports 2 cameras, so you can have one on the roof and one on the tow ball (I've just got one fitted though). @tab.travels on instagram

For the reverse camera, get it done by replacing the rear-view mirror, it took me 10 years to move away from those silly pop-up screens and now I don't know how I ever lived with that.

The auto electrician installed this for me, he has the same in his 130 camper: http://bestech.co.za/portfolio/reverse-safely/

The only downside is that you have to trim the visors a bit for the mirror to fit, but small price to pay. --
