DRIVER SIDE WINDOW NOT WORKING,
Hi All

i am new to this site so i'm hoping i am in the right place? i have a 2007 defender 90, the driver side window is not working and neither is the cabin light working when the driver side door opens, 20A fuses are ok, i've taken the door panel off but nothing obvious, i am suspicious because the light doesn't operate also!!!

can anyone point me in the right direction before i go stripping stuff down for no reason please?

TIA

I had the same issue on my ‘08 year; it was the wiring loom that runs through the door to the cabin (it had worn through inside the flexible rubber trunking).

You could try there as it was a quick fix (if it is that).

Good luck.

so i have just stripped the wiring. all looked ok, i checked for Vdc at the motor connection and when i operate the switch for window down i get 12Vdc at the connector. i suppose this proves the motor is faulty? i am still scratching my head to why the internal light doesn't work on the same door though, but hey ho.

can anyone confirm my above diagnosis is correct,

also can anyone recommend best place to get a new motor ( south wales area?)

and are there any tips on changing the motor please?

again TIA

Interior light off that door is probably dirty contacts on the back off the switch, remove, clean and refit.

I would still suspect wiring through the door pillar - if there is 1 strand barely making contact you'll get your voltage but not enough current too move the window. "feel' the wiring loom where it flexes in the convoluted rubber tube for any odd spots - a temporary strip twist and insulate should prove the motor is ok - as would a direct feed from the battery.

When it happened to me it was the wiring loom. I just bought a new one and that fixed it.

Happened to me too and like others it was the wiring in the flexible sleeve from the vehicle to the door, was not obvious at first. The rear passenger side had the same issue is the same week with the central locking that side not working. Again it was the corroded and worn wiring by flexing in the flexible sleeve/conduit from the vehicle to the door.

Rear driver's side passenger door (that's on ze left for ze Britisch) has chewed the wiring 3 times in the last 9 years...
Otherwise, make sure the window glass isn't sticking (use silikon spray on the felt) - it stops the window from moving and b*ggers the motor. Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Don’t just test the voltage, also test the neutral too. I would apply your own supply to the motor and test it.

cheers for this it was the motor, i did have trouble with it sticking which must have caused it. i will put silicon spray on the felt to stop it happening again. cheers mate

On my 2014 Puma, my drivers side window also worked intermittently. Turned out to be the connection just inside the cabin where the wiring from the door plugs in. One of the metal connectors had slowly back itself out of the plug. Cleaned up, re-seated the contact in the plug, and everything has been good since.

I have also had the back of the contacts on the dashboard switch for the window get damaged.
Easy enough to pull the switch out and check the contacts. Hold my beer and watch this!
