Intercooler shootout
You know what we are missing here?

A I/C shootout, where we compare performance to price on the available I/C in the market. So ppl may wisely choose the correct i/c for their budget/performance.

I have setup a couple friends with the Britpart I/C and both love the increase over stock, but there is no proper way to measure perf vs price unless someone rents a dyno and does a back to back with the same tune so there are no variables, then does a max perf with remap for each.

My case and point is i had the ALIVE tuning Ultimate I/C, i recently swapped to the Allisport, and i can feel a difference in performance. Price is the same, but wow, i am really happy with the Allisport I/C. My AFR at WOT was 12.5, but after i swapped the I/C it dropped to 14.5. EGT is also lower since more air is gettin in.

I also swapped my MAF to the V8 version where i also increased the ID to about 74mm in attempt to allow more air in. I am lookin to swap to a P38 MAF where i will have 80mm ID, but the airbox lid needs to be modified to fit. You will need an adapter loom and a 12v to 5v converter to make all this work as i am going from a 3 pin to 5 pin connector.

This has me wonderin if the I/C made the difference or the MAF upgrade. Can't leave well enough alone

I fitted the BAS intercooler to my (BAS 170 remapped) 2.2 and it made no difference at all to the performance, but then it's there to provide better cooling, not more power, so I didn't expect it to.

However it opens the way to an uprated turbo which will give more power, so that's the main reason I got it.

Very informative, but it lacks the dyno numbers. Can't leave well enough alone

I did some calculations and for every 10C the inlet temperature will go down you get about 3.4% more air in your cylinders.

The question I have been asking more often how much does an uprated intercooler cool more?

Normal driving with my standard intercooler I have about 40 C at 100 km/hr. Working hard say with trailer up hill etc it gets upto 60-65 C depending on the outside temp. Roel

If you’re measuring coolant temperature, A tdci goes over 90.

If you are just lookin to drip the charged temp, get a water meth injection system. Get the one with the egt probe so when you are towin it helps cool the charged air as well as the exhaust gases.

I went for performance, and currently runnin 2gph nozzle for light loads, mpg, and 3gph power for when i am heavy on the throttle.

So far its all workin nicely, and my egts with a remap are around 1250f which is the absolute max. Can't leave well enough alone

Coolant is a different thing. My Coolant temp is between 88 and 92 C and fluctuates depending on how much it has to work but reacts slowly. Airintake temp reacts very quickly in a few seconds you see it decreasing or increasing depending on your throttle position.

I am interested to know how much better a better intercooler cools. Roel

There are a few graphs on the BAS website.

Have you tried the PWR one ? Only available thru Ian @IRB Developments. We did a lot of R&D back in the day when i was there. A well proven intercooler used by a fair few of the BTCC/WRC lot... Putting Dreams on Drives at JLR Solihull..
