Winchmax vs Rhino winches
Hi all

Anyone got experience or advice with these manufacturers? I've got a Winchmax bumper I'm very pleased with but can't decide which winch manufacturer to go for.
I only need a small winch (13000 lbs) for carefully dragging caravans/trees/myself etc. out of crap. Synthetic cord is fine.
These two have very similar specs but the second is 150 Euros cheaper:

Any ideas? Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

13,000 lbs is not a small winch!

Compare with the king of winches, the Husky, rated at 8,000 for the standard model.

Winchmax is what I’ve fitted and am very very very happy with it. Nicely made, and looks that last unlike previous winches.

You should a got winch with bumper as they do package deal. They also sell a defender wiring kit which is good quality. Give them a call and ask for a deal. I did Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I fitted a Rhino with wire cable.....not really used it in a vengeance but I am very happy with it.....worked perfectly in all my tests.... price was right and delivered the day after ordering!

Good luck

Okay - not a "small" winch exactly but pretty much the smallest I can get away with Wink

Thanks Andy, thanks G4UJS. It was only after I saw how good the Winchmax bumper was (and how quickly delivered) that I decided to upgrade the towbar winch as well.

I'll wait for a few more replies but the Winchmax or Rhino are definitely the "defaults".

I went for a second hand Warn, now with a XP motor and different relais.

The problem I see with most budget winches is that they quote high line pulls but I doubt if they make that happen. Mine should pull 9000 lbs with the original motor but is a lot quicker than the budget winches and I have a feeling that it is stronger too.

Most time winches give problems if they are not used enough. Connections start corroding and that gives heat and resistence so more heat and a not working motor after a short while. If a permanent magnet motor gets to hot the magnets break and it is over. Roel
