Series 2a Repatriation
So....when I heard of this fairly unique Series 2a 109" that was sat idle in Luxembourg and needed a new home, I booked a plane ticket. Gerty had started life in Kenya as an ambulance then had adventures as far apart as the Himalayas and the Arctic circle. I had sent my toolbox and some spares ahead as she hadn't done more than a few miles at a time for the past couple of years. Safely arriving late on a Monday evening by Ryanair, my trip started in the dark too early on Tuesday morning, first stop filling the tank plus 2 jerry cans of fuel as it is cheaper in Luxembourg. On to the motorway after about 15km then straight to Dunkirk varying between 35mph and 60 mph depending upon hills and head wind. 250 miles in less than 6 hours then onto the stormy seas to Dover. Another 130 miles back home. No problems, no oil usage but also no heater!!!

Do you know who made the bodywork?
It looks very similar to this Pilcher ambulance.

Its been back for about 2 months. We think it is a Pilcher's ambulance. It originally had the 3 piece back doors. It seems to have been converted to a single door at some point on it's overland from Kenya back to the UK.

I have 3 articles in Classic Land Rover magazine documenting the 2 big trips along with some of the original photgraphs.
