Hella Garrett Turbo Actuator.
I was leaving the yard the other night when I suffered a massive loss of power and the engine management light came on. Code reader into the obd socket, phone on and turbo under boost on the list. Re-set the fault and came straight back again. Checked the hoses no splits or tears, checked the inlet pipe for collapsing. Checked the turbo actuator and this appeared to be seized. I disconnected the actuator and the rod was free so the actuator had obviously packed in.
I carried on with work at 50mph on limp mode and the following day I phoned Matfords but they had shut down no spares available from JLR.
I hit the internet and found this company near our yard in Birmingham. Turbovanes in Smethwick, I took the actuator to him and he re-built it in a couple of hours for £120. He said it was wrecked inside especially at the ends of its operation indicating that the variable vanes are carbon covered, he has recommended a couple of bottles of Fortis Turbo Cleaner. Already before this the vehicle is running tons better, stays on cruise on the motorway no dropping speed on the hills, the actuator must have been badly worn not opening the turbo correctly and or fully.

I am nothing to doings with Turbovanes but always ready to 10/10 for anyone who gives good service.

If you need one ask for a L-72 If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

Useful to know, thanks.

It's strikingly different when the actuator packs up. Mine's done it twice, both due to harness chafing faults, once it locked in mid position (totally gutless) and once in full boost (terrifying noises from the RAI even on tickover).

I was impressed with the service, hence I have given him a recommendation on the site. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.
