Best stick on sound proofing
What's the consensus on best value for money sound deadening I can stick the rear seat box of a double cab? Cheers

Guess anyone would advice on the stuff they stuck on themselves?
Not sure what's the best value but I've bought a complete sound deadening kit from a forum member (mps?) years ago. After only covering the rear behind the rear seats with Dynamat Xtreme and Dynaliner it already made such a difference I never fitted the rest.
Who knows if I get bored enough during lockdown...

Silent coat is far cheaper then dynamat but still expensive. It’s cheaper if you buy in bulk and in sheets. Not pre cut.
Some people have used simple rubber mat but I can’t comment on the Results. Silent coat worked for me. recomended by the super helpful blokes at deadening.co..uk Thumbs Up

I like Dynamat Extreme in black but there are different alternatives such as above.

There was some talk about some of the cheap stuff possibly containing Lead, I don't know what truth there is in that though.
Dynamat may not be cheap but it works, I haven't done much of mine with it but the seat boxes externally and the base made a difference I do know.

I bought sheets of dynamat and cut to size , it was also for a double cab . The difference is huge , doors, seat box and floors made were the most noticeable .
I like the dynamat because it doesn’t hold water , I’ve tried other brands and was hugely disappointed that they acted like sponges https://www.instagram.com/hustynminepark/

Fatmat megamat. Cheaper then dyna extreme and basically the same product.

There's a company on eBay - the Sound Deadening Shop or something similar - that sells bulk packs of Silentcoat cheaper than anywhere else that I've found. I've been very pleased with its' performance. Buy a cheap, wall paper seam roller to aid with installation.

If you're planning on using acoustic foam over the dense layer then buy generic unbranded stuff. I've used both Silentcoat branded and generic 6mm foam in two different vehicles and whist there was a slight difference in texture, I couldn't tell the difference in performance. Darren

Perhaps some of you insulation gurus could give me some advice?

I will shortly be removing the droopy headlining from my Disco2 to re-upholster it, it has the usual D2 problem of the foam layer disintegrating so the fabric drops. While the headlining is out, I want to apply some insulation to the bare steel roof since another well know D2 problem is that you get a mass of condensation on the roof which then pools and shoots out of the front seat belt upper mounts straight into your lap (or the passenger's lap) when you set off.

It was my plan to apply some form of thermal insulation (noise really isn't an issue) to try to inhibit the condensation. At the moment my thoughts are self-adhesive closed cell foam, dos the panel think that this would be the best, or is there something better?

Maybe overkill but watch this as a demo....

Can’t speak highly enough of Silent Coat. Doing my 110 as we speak. I bought the Landrover 90 pack it’s more than enough. Seat box inside and out, underneath floors and bulkhead. Still have spare sheets. Highly recommend.
Awaiting delivery of floor insulation and roof sound deadening.

Look up Noico on Amazon, I have used their Butyl sheets and the Red foam - seemed to do the job and cheap in comparison

Partly because they're just down the road, and I was going to be passing anyway, I went for the option from Lasalle Trim. https://www.lasalle-trim.co.uk/product/110-roof-ta-insulation/

I don't seem to remember paying that much tbh, but maybe. I'm sure there will be cheaper options. Having said that, the stuff has stuck up there and stayed there, and I think the car is warmer and a little quieter as a result. What has definitely stopped is the cold condensation shower that (as you'll know) in the Defender comes out about the middle of the front doors but still ends up in your lap!

I got the 110 kit - maybe three large sheets - and I think I've got most of one of them left, so perhaps a 90 kit would do the job.

Like a lot of these things, if you search about the interweb you might find it cheaper.

For cutting condensation though, I'm happy with this. Donald
