Rear Tub Full of Filler Help please
Any bodywork experts out there have any brainwaves how to deal with this, its up to 7-8mm thick in places, bodywork underneath is fairly good so they was absolutely no need for it and it had started cracking in places so needs to come off.
The area around the cracks broke off handy enough but not the rest Big Cry

I know I could replace the outside skin but it being a 110 hardtop tub thats ££££s from Landrover

Thanks Nidge.

Bloody Hell! That's extreme - and I grew up in Essex! Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Why have they put it on if the bodywork underneath is ok? It seems like a lot of trouble to go to putting it on, almost as much as you'll have removing it. Second hand tub?

Going out the old unsound filler, do a better job than was done of straightening the panel, re fill rub down and paint.

Or get a new outer panel, cut moist of the old panel away and bond the new one over the top, refit capping and paint.

I have a refurbished Heritage railway items that had large quantities of filler on them with these https://www.cromwell.co.uk/shop/abrasives/...RK2453800K

and the Harder Orange pads. The advantage is that they only polish the base metal instead of grinding it away, they fit on an angle grinder, disadvantage lots of dust. A shallow angle is best like a grinding disc, if you put the full face on the surface they can fling the angle grinder out your grip. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

Just to close this off, the filler came off handy enough in the end but lots of dust, used the nylon disc in the grinder to take the bulk off then used the Mirka Orbital with 80grit Abranet Thumbs Up

Lucky for me it was only the rear end....I guess the lad who filled it wasn't aware of the flex in land rover aluminium panels and kept filling till the panel no long flexed Whistle

Jeez! What was he trying to fill? It’s hard to actually see the damage.
