Bleeding clutch issues
I have replaced my slave cylinder and drained all the old fluid, and when i top up the master cylinder with new fluid and pump the clutch pedal I do not feel any resistance from the clutch pedal and no reduction in the level of the fluid in the master cylinder.

I was expecting the fluid to be pushed through the system as I pump the clutch pedal, was not going to be hard until I bleed. However is not not appear to be taking any fluid from the master.

any ideas ?

No you dont. You just need to bleed it properly.

Slave cylinder is on the bellhousing. That must be open on order to bleed the clutch. Instagram @defender_ventures

Bleeding the clutch on a TD5 can be a nightmare

After doing the job many times l found the best method is to bleed the clutch using a pressure bleeder, which will likely result in a working clutch but a bit too much play in the pedal, so the biting point is low.

So wedge the pedal down overnight which will cause any air in the system to be absorbed into the brake fluid. In the morning the pedal will feel great, but you need to straightaway bleed the system again.
(Otherwise the lower biting point will after a while come back)

If you do the above it removes all air from the system and you will have the best clutch pedal ever.

I've managed to do it in the past and I don't have a pressure bleeder, I just ended up doing it a couple of times over a couple of days to finally get all the air out! The first re-bleed happened at the side of the road...

How is the master cylinder? My dad was having problems bleeding his system and it turned out that the master was on its way. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

installed a new master cylinder and bled normally with the help from some helpful children:)

Clutch is now perfect..

I always replace master and slave together, no point in mucking about with old bits for the relatively low cost of new.
