EGR plate - gasket
Hi folks,

300Tdi - Is there a gasket to go between the exhaust manifold and the EGR blanking plate?

I've searched and found WAL500010L as the recent part number, but it looks like a thick, chunky thing. Almost as thick as the plate itself.

My car never had an EGR, and between the plate and manifold (probably undisturbed since it left the factory) is what looks like a thin layer of something - either gasket, or some sort of old sealant.

I have a plate to fit an EGT probe, but no gasket. Either it didn't come with one, or I've lost it Sad . I don't want to disturb anything now until I know I have all the bits I need.

I guess I could use exhaust paste, but I wouldn't want bits to dry off, then fall into the turbo.

Any advice, or am I over-thinking this as usual?

BUT you find that ERR4852 has been superseded by WAL500010L

You're absolutely right - no-one lists the ERR4852 part - just the superceded one.

Are you familiar with ERR4852? Is it a 'thinner' type?

I don't suppose there's anything wrong in principle with using the new one, but I think I'd need longer bolts. Donald

Almost certain it used to be a orange paper gasket on the 94 models

Presumably, because of the heat involved, it can't just be a straightforward paper gasket? I have some 'gasket paper' sheets and could easily cut one out, but I guess it would just burn to a crisp! Donald
