Cav 19j 2.5 TD fuel injector pump Advance or not to advance
Hi,

Trying to get more power out of my 19j . With timing set on the pin power is lacking mainly on hill climb. Advance pump at small stages with no major improvement. If advanced to much then diesel knock on acceleration. Small adjust from pin results is more grey smoke puffing from start when cold.

So question Advance or not to advance ?

On my previous 19J 110, I set it by the book - biggest area of weakness was the diaphragm on the Injector pump having a small split in it. so that was replaced and then changing air filter regularly...

Hi,

Diaphragm changed after issue with tank pressuring. K&N filter regularly cleaned and oiled with snorkel so no issue with air flow.

I may not be all there but in the past on my old jap pick up's, i use to have piper cross air filters and regularly cleaned and oiled them up, but i always thought it should have more oomph with a performance air filter, so one day a good friend said get rid of that rubbish and put a K & N filter on, so i did and what a massive difference, so from then on i have put K & N filters on my vehicle, but i have never oiled them and i have never had any problems them not being oiled to this date and Millie is on 376,000 now Very Happy 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.

Hi
K&N supply a cleaner and oil for the filter. The oil holds on to the dust they claim.

Yes you are right with the oil supplied Thumbs Up

But since i had the piper cross problem, i never put any oil on the K & N filters as i think that the materials they use are much better than the foam stuff that others use, this is only my opinion though Thumbs Up 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.
