Any advice on Defender Insurance Specialists?
I need to sort our insurance for my Newly acquired Defender. Are there any specialist Defender Insurance Companies out there that are generally more competitively priced that The mainstream insurance companies or should I just go on ‘Go Compare’ type comparison websites?

Forum Sponsor A-Plan Insurance (Thatcham Branch)!

Currently have three cars insured with them based on forum feedback. Sadly not an LR product currently.

Ive had good results with recently forum sponsor A Plan, a blindingly good quote on my 110 that covers business as well.
Prior to that was with Heritage who were also good, but couldn't offer such an exhaustively rock solid policy on my 110. My plaything 90 is still with them and is cheap as chips to insure and covers all of its ridiculous modifications no problem.

Definitely A-Plan
But you have to ring the Thatcham branch mentioned on the forum.

Give us a call! :D
Hi!

As mentioned above it's the Thatcham branch of A-Plan that supports the group so if you call us on 01635 874646 we can take a look for you and mention def2.net for discount too Smile

I did check on Go Compare before ringing A Plan. And although A Plan gave me a competitive quote, cheaper than most, I ended up saving a further £110 like for like and went with Churchill from Go Compare I’m afraid.

That's a shame - we never sell ourselves as being the absolute cheapest as we aren't offering budget cover, we do try to be competitive. Sorry you've left us this year but don't forget us when it comes back around again!

You've also got to remember the benefits you get with A-Plan too: we have an in-house claims team, qualified staff offering an advised service in the same way you'd speak to a financial adviser as many insurers are non-advised so can simply offer you a product, we are able to advise on the cover you need as well as the cover you don't need and sit quite a few exams to be able to give you this service. As well as a personable service which doesn't use call centres etc. Our cover options also include things like being able to use your own repairers in a claim, off road cover, agreed value options and other benefits which you can't get with the standard insurers that appear online.

Smilesapart. Did Churchill offer an agreed price policy as Defenders are selling for a lot more than their book value.

Foggy Dave! Thank you for that advice. I double checked and you were right, they would only have paid out the official market value!! So I have cancelled theirs and rung A Plan back who confirmed they would pay out the true replacement market value and so have gone with them!! So thanks - great advice!
Cheers

A Plan back who confirmed they would pay out the true replacement market value

Is this standard cover from A-Plan or an option that needs to be requested??

If you are with one of our specialist insurers they know their cars and what they sell for... They look at what they are going for in todays market to help get a true representation of the value rather than standard insurers who generally just go by glasses guide.
We also have agreed value options available if you meet the criteria for it.

I have been with A-plan for years (on three vehicles)

It's renewal time for the Defender (with loads of mods that A-plan are aware of)

I thought I would ensure their renewal quote is OK so tried to get a quote from Gladiator as someone on Defender2.net recommended them – what a waste of 25 minutes (despite telling them it was a modified vehicle including a re-map at the beginning of the call) they did not even want to quote.

Unless anybody has a strong recommend for an alternative to A-plan, I will just renew with them, they have always seemed OK (though I have never claimed)
