2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 DCPU Stornoway Grey

What comes out of a Provent....

Various people have asked in the past how much gunk does a Provent collect and is it ok to put it back in the sump. I thought that the picture below might be of interest, this is what collected in mine in approximately 5k miles. Note that my engine has done a very high mileage, a tad under 250k miles, so it is inevitable that more gunky yuk will be passing the pistons than on a lower mileage unit.

Approximately 1/3 of the discharge is water, 2/3 is oil. I wouldn't want this back in my sump. By the way, the bottle is a 1 litre Lucozade bottle.

They're generic and not engine specific. Type "Provent" in the search box and you'll find several threads.

Hmm, having now checked in a bit more detail, it seems that HM may only sell them as OE and not for aftermarket fitment. Darren
