A solution to my starter woes
Hello everyone , an easy question for you all . My defender comes out every couple of months to visit a pit , so around 600 mile a year covered , I’m finding that with every pit visit , I have to replace the starter . This is because I drive around in a lake , bring it home , clean it and then put it away to bed . 2 months later the starter fails due to seized bearings . I only use the 50 quid starters from eBay anyway . The solution I believe is that once she’s hone , clean and put away . I should remove , strip out and clean and lube the starter . Would you agree this is the only way to make-em last ?

Several options,

1) Buy a Boat, you will find that much better for getting around a Lake.
2) After returning from the Pit visit, try starting your car, say every week, this would stop the starter bearing from seizing up.
3) May be a better quality starter would be more waterproof and resistant to seizing. Richard

Either a 90, 110 or 130.

Many years ago in 1977ish when my starter motor failed on my mini van and I could not afford to replace it, I used to always park on a slope facing down hill.

Today the Health and Safety Police would frown as with the drivers door open I pushed the car using the door frame to hold on then jump in and put it in gear and dump the clutch. Sometime I wonder how I am still here!! Confused Very Happy Cheers Don.
