300 tdi thermostat
Can anybody tell me where the thermostat on the Defender 300 tdi engine is? Heater is not putting out much warm air so I presume that the thermostat is stuck open. It happened to me on a 200 tdi but the 300 is new to me. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Just because the heater isn't giving full heat, doesn't follow that the thermostat is faulty (or even the wrong one has been fitted at some point).
Have you checked the heater control cables to make sure that the internal flap is closing fully and ensuring that all air is passing through the matrix and not around the sides? ONE LIFE, GET IT!

Does the engine get up to temperature? If so then it's more likely the issue is elsewhere. If the thermostat is stuck open or missing then the radiator will be cooling continuously and therefore the engine temperature won't rise as much as it should be. Ed

Often they have been bled incorrectly in the past leading to poor heating, how hot are the pipes into and from the matrix? Air often gets trapped there reducing the heater output. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Lots to check, thank you. The temperature gauge does not get to half way. Like I said earlier, I had the same issue with a 200 tdi and a change of thermostat resolved the issue. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
