United Kingdom 2011 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 SVX Station Wagon Santorini Black
JVC unit from Mudstuff (JVC KW-M745DBT)
Has anyone installed one of these?

I have installed one, using the ISO cable to my '10 Puma.

Hooked up the reverse camera, DAB radio, AMP, which was already there, tapped into the remote turn on blue / white lead.

Everything works, excellent unit.

However, problem I have, when I turn off the power / key, the head unit resets to factory default settings, next time I turn the key, for the life of me can't figure out why?

Is there a setting on the headhunt, can't find one, or is there lead in the ISO cable that is not correct.

Any help be appreciated

Thanks

Mark

I’m not to clued up on this sort of thing, but I think you need to swop the permanent live and ignition live wires then the unit should retain its memory settings.

(Not sure but I think it’s the red and blue wires that need swopping over. I’m sure there will be someone who knows to give you better advice soon).

Have a look at the pin connection here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connectors_for_car_audio

I suspect, as Daz has mentioned, you need to swap the live and switched 12v around (A4 and A7 in the diagram). There used to be bullet connectors in the radio ISO cables which let you swap these without having to remove terminals from the plugs. I think from memory they cables that need swapping are red and yellow. I think blue was normally reserved for a 12v switched signal from the radio (used for turning and AMP on or power antenna).

So, cut the red and yellow, red to yellow, yellow to red then?

In-pin the pins and swap around, DIN ISO connectors are easy to un-pin. No cutting required.

As Daz said, it appears you are losing permanent live for memory settings.
The LR harness is DIN ISO standard unless cuddles with.
So I’d recommend you swap over the pins on the female block on the Head Unit side.
Be sure to check the colours correspond to the DIN ISO wiring colours mentioned above. Typically Red and yellow IIRC in this case.
Blue is RMT nothing to do with the issue you are having.
This is only for turning a device on and no load should be put in it above circa 200mA. Thumbs Up Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

How do you get the pins out?

There is a single locking tag on one side of the pin. From the connector entry side slide a very small micro flat blade screwdriver implement down the side of the pin.
Then gently pull the wire from the rear once unlocked.

Make sure the locking tag is slightly out again before re-fitting it in and gently pull on the wire once locked in to check it’s secured.

I can quite remember if there is one or two locking tags, but they will release with a little patience.
If you have a Male superseal pin lying around or similar that would probably do it too.

They are very simple connectors so there is no unique tools needed to do with with. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

UPDATE

Red to yellow, yellow to red, had a spare loom.... turn the key, unit on, change settings, turn key off, settings stay.... turn key, start car, unto restarts and settings go.... BT settings stay, but everything else, wiped clean.... this is frustrating...

So, ACC works, but when the is running.... resets

Thoughts anyone?

Cheers

Are the fuses in-tact?
If you have the capability, see what voltage you are getting down too on cranking.

It could be that you are getting significant voltage drop on cranking, causing the HU to reset. I would have thought 9v is the cut off point.

Have you tried keeping it off, and only starting the HU once the motor is running and voltage has stabilised?

Usually the the settings allow this change it you can manually do it.

Is your battery in good order and showing correct voltages when alternator is charging etc?

Beyond that, it could be a HU fault. If you have a warranty I’d get it swapped as a matter of course just in case it is that. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Fuses all OK,

Voltage OK, volts never drops below 11.6v when starting up, so doubt it’s voltage drop. Have a volt meter on the usb plug where the 12v socket used to be, so all good there.

Battery and alternator OK, charges at 14V when driving.

This is just strange.... maybe by pass the factory connection and straight to the fuse box and direct to battery

Thanks for your help, will revisit after Xmas....

Thumbs Up

You can always test the LR harness too.
Don’t forget earthing continuity as well.

Do you have another HU you could try? That may give you an idea as to if it may be the culprit instead. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

I don’t have another unit. The only thing I do have, earth wide, is I tapped into the earthing wire to earth my outside temp gauge. I can always pull that off and see.... but seriously doubt that would cause this.... but you never know Thumbs Up
