Looks like it might be the intermediate shaft o-rings on the Transfer box. Mine used to be like that, the oil goes everywhere!

There is a hole in the casting on the gearbox which oil that leaks between Transfer and Main Box seals can escape though which is on the O/S bottom of the casting.

yep its that hole, shown, that the oil is coming out of. i am pretty certain its EP90 so from the T box. but could be either g or t in there. am going to check level in T box and go from there. Cheers

Ah yes, my apologies. I hadn't registered that it was an 6spd box rather than the R380 i am used to!

drop the t box fix seals and fresh oil and see how it goes for me

becoming more common to leak from here as the boxes get older.

Not ever having seen one, but does the Ashcroft output shaft conversion 'leak' oil to enable its own lubrication? Although that does look like a lot of oil!

The favourite cross shaft leak - is it outside of the output shaft housing, or could it be leaking inside of the housing`/ `the O rings are peanuts so if you're going to drop the box to do the seal, might be worth doing the o rings at the same time.

ashcroft kit uses oil from gbox to lubricate it yes. it uses a t box seal from memory too.

i reckon its EP90 from t box leaking past input seal into the intermediate housing.

as darren says got to be t box off first and go from there i reckon. Cheers

I think I used 4 lengths of m10 studding to put the transfer box back on with to avoid damaging the seal - its a heavy lump balanced on a jack

Best of luck!

The acid test is does it smell of EP or of the gear oil from the G box?

The article on Ashcroft's site doesn't specify a different seal so having that one and the common ICV100000 for the T box as it's out might not be bad idea.

The MT82 output seal is a Lr058800 or... if you want genuine but not £30 LR genuine then The ford number is 1476743 is about £10 less for the same seal just not in LR packaging. Rolling with laughter Also can be found on Fb, Ytube, Insta & Twitter @4WDSouthwest

Hi James,

let me know when the transfer case is off if its the output shaft kit,

some of the early ones leaked as there was little clearance between the ali collar and the inner shaft,

In some cases this clearance is not enough as I naively though the input gear would be directly inline with the MT82 output shaft, often its not. Dave
